NEW YORK - A New York Police Department spokesman says the actor Heath Ledger has been found dead at a downtown Manhattan residence.

According to TMZ.com, Ledger, 28, was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 p.m. ET Tuesday.

The actor has a two-year-old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams. Ledger was set to play the Joker in the upcoming Batman film "The Dark Knight." He received an Academy Award nomination for his work in "Brokeback Mountain."

It seems no one was pleased with Dr. Phil's unsuccessful attempt to ride on the controversial Britney Spears notorious popularity by going to the hospital where Spears was brifly confined for her tantrum.

Now it’s not just Brit’s parents and mental health professionals giving the good doc a hard time. Queen of Talk Oprah Winfrey has had it with her tell-it-like-it-is protégé, reports the National Enquirer.

“Oprah is furious,” an insider told the magazine. “She expected Phil to apologize before the situation got out of hand. Instead he used the spotlight to tout his struggling talk show. … Oprah thinks he has completely lost his sense of right and wrong.”

No stranger to her own scandals, Oprah’s upset about how Phil’s handled his public embarrassment. “Oprah has made mistakes but the difference is that she’s known when to step back and apologize,” a friend revealed. “She feels Phil should have done that when he had the chance. … He betrayed her trust.

While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends.”

CASEY ALDRIDGE DUMPED JAMIE LYN SPEARS

Aside from she lost her show for being pregnant, Jamie Lynn also lost her boyfriend Casey Aldridge.

He has no plan of marrying her even if the DNA test proves his paternity. He expressed his doubt of the paternity since he admitted that both of them were not really faithful to each other.

Tabloid rumors aside, Casey apparently has reason to doubt his contribution to Jamie Lynn’s conundrum. “Let’s put it this way,” the friend said. “They’ve both strayed a bit from their relationship. They’re both teenagers, after all.”

Dr. Phil Criticized for the hospital visit to Britney Spears

Many of those who have read about Dr. Phil's visit to Brtiney Spears when she was briefly hospitalized after losing the sole custody to her kids felt disgusted.

He reasoned out that he was requested by the family to see Britney Spears.

But now the family announced their feeling of being betrayed by the TV talk show host.

Television talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw violated the trust of Britney Spears’ parents by making public statements about his hospital visit with the troubled pop star after a standoff with police last week, a family spokesperson said in an exclusive interview Wednesday.

“This is another example of a trust being betrayed,” Lou Taylor, the spokesperson, told TODAY co-host Meredith Vieira. Rather than helping the family’s situation, the celebrity psychologist caused additional damage, she said.

“I think it’s been compromised, because it’s a measure of trust,” she said of the relationship between Britney Spears and her parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears.

“Photos are already on the market, and although they’re tame, who’s to say what the next round will hold,” said a concerned friend of the pop star. Ghalib (who is married, according to many reports) is said to be brokering a deal via his photo agency, FinalPixx, that could fetch a six-figure sum for shots of himself with Spears.

“It’s not as if Britney’s judgment is very good right now, he could really take advantage of her. Her MTV performance could actually end up looking tasteful, if things go really bad,” said one person who has worked with Britney and attempted to help her recently.

The soul singer, who claimed the “Idol” title in 2006, has apparently been dropped by J Records, a label within Sony-BMG, which signs the show’s singers.

“Taylor is going to record on his own for the next album,” said J Records publicist Liz Morentin, who did not give further details regarding Hicks.

GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS NIGHT MIGHT BE CANCELLED

Last Year, Jennifer Hudson won the Best Supporting actress in the 2007 Golden Globe Award. This year, if NBC finally decides to cancel the show due to the threat that the no one would come to the award night in sympathy for the Hollywood writers who are still on strike.

NEW YORK - The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and NBC engaged negotiations Sunday to try to save the boycott-stricken Golden Globes, but the network apparently is going to pull the telecast as a result of the Hollywood writers strike.

A source close to NBC told msnbc.com that the network has already made its decision to pull the Golden Globes telecast. An announcement confirming the telecast cancellation is expected Monday evening.

“NBC feels that it’s better to have an awards show with no one watching than have a show where no one shows up,” the source told msnbc.com. “They decided this over the weekend, despite saying that they’re still negotiating. Now, what hasn’t been decided is what they’re going to do with all that airtime, and that’s why they haven’t made an announcement yet.”

Alessandro claims he’s pained to be only the first of Lindsay’s three close encounters on Capri, where the actress attended a film festival. “I was hurt and sad when I found out about the other guys,” the self-described former model claimed. More likely, it’s money that inspired Alessandro’s loose lips.

From describing Lindsay’s mismatched bra and panties and her bedroom moves as “extremely flexible and adventurous," Alessandro found no alleged detail of his Lindsay encounter too personal to keep confidential.

BRITNEY SPEARS HOSPITALIZED AFTER HAVING CONFRONTATION WITH HUSBAND'S REPRESENTATIVES

It's already New Year and Lady luck continues to avoid Britney Spears. Aside from losing her sole custody rights to her ex-husband Kevin Federline, she was hospitalized briefly at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

A spokeswoman for the hospital, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, declined comment citing patient confidentiality, and a representative for McGraw could not be reached.

Spears, 26, was hospitalized on Friday when trouble erupted between her and representatives of Federline, who went to Spears' home to pick up their sons from a weekend visitation.

The pop singer, who spent much of 2007 in and out of alcohol and drug rehab and battling legal problems, became hysterical, was taken from her home on a stretcher and transported to Cedars-Sinai via ambulance, television and Web sites reported.

Federline's attorneys went to a Los Angeles family court on Friday and obtained a ruling that suspended Spears' visitation rights to her two sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, until Jan. 14.

On Saturday, Web sites for celebrity TV shows "Entertainment Tonight" and "The Insider" reported that McGraw walked Spears to her car. The New York Post's PageSix.com cited a "family insider" as saying Spears had "a complete nervous breakdown."

"My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention," McGraw told the programs.
